My thoughts:
Whenever I go for a long period of time without reading erotica, it takes me a minute or two to get back into the rhythms of it. Cowboy Heaven drops the reader directly into the action with a 'hot hitchhiking cowboy' scenario that escalates immediately into a sexual fantasy.
Though the blurb suggests this is erotic romance, I found the romance component lacking. It *is* very erotic, with lots of oral sex and plenty of other action. There were some bits that put me off a little, because of the language used, but overall it was relatively hot.
The romance was a bit out of left field for me. Because all the sex was a case of famine to feast, and because it was all fantasy material rather than something that read as vaguely within the realm of possibility, I guess I wanted more evidence of what it was about Angela that was so irresistible, and more... something. The romance was too abrupt for me to get fully on board, though I was amused by how open Angela became about her sexual escapades. It was truly famine to feast on the ranch!
There's an element of danger in this book as well. It had me scratching my head. I didn't think it was entirely necessary and it felt a bit jammed in to provide a climactic moment towards the end of the book (not that it wasn't full of... cheap joke). I think if it had been handled a bit more realistically earlier on - if you're concerned that you might be in real danger, wouldn't you go to the police about it? - I think it could have added a suspenseful dimension to the book.
I really don't know what else to say. There were bits and bobs that I enjoyed but overall, this book wasn't really for me. While it was light and sexy, there were also elements that just didn't work for me at all.
Bottom line:
Cowboy Heaven was a bit of a mess for me - parts of it read too much like the novel on which a stereotypical pornographic movie were based. The threat in the story was a little too contrived and the romance too sudden. Still, there's some hot stuff in this one!
