Why I picked up this book:

I was intrigued by the blurb, as I so often am.

Blurb:
He's never met a challenge he couldn't take...

Alexis Yeung did everything right....only to watch everything go horribly, horribly wrong. Broken and angry, Alexis high-tails it to Europe, determined to face the world on her own terms and without consequence. Which includes a mind-blowing night with a sexy, scarred stranger.

Except, embittered former pararescuer Luke Jackson isn't exactly a stranger. He's supposed to keep an eye on Alexis without her knowing. Ending up in bed together was definitely not the plan. Now he's chasing her (admittedly hot) ass across Europe, a game of cat and mouse that always ends with the two of them tangled up in the sheets.

Something in their scarred, damaged souls calls to each other. And God help them, the sex in unbelievably hot. But if Alexis discovers who Luke really is, he'll lose the one thing that makes him feel whole...

My Thoughts:

Phew! When the blurb describes the sex in His Lover to Protect as unbelievably hot, well, it's not far off the mark! This is one sexy book.

With plenty of heat, there's not a lot of build-up. In fact, I'd say this one is heavily on the side of sexy, without a lot of romance. I bought into it, but I don't think anyone looking for lots of sweetness is going to love this book.

I think what I liked most about the book is that it's such a great example of how enjoyable a story about two smartasses getting together can be. There's some great banter between Alexis and Luke. I like that they have this relationship full of friction, they don't get along easily. I love the needling, the blunt edges here. It feels like exactly what they both need--raw honesty.

What I didn't like about this book is that Alexis' family goes to insane lengths to keep an eye on her. I found that really over-the-top, and it made me not like her family at all, which is unfortunate, because I assume her sister's relationship comes out of an earlier book in the series (which I will now avoid). I can't imagine sending someone to stalk-protect one of my family members just because they've taken off without, essentially, clearing it with me first. Not cool!

His Lover to Protect travels across Europe, visiting some gorgeous spots. It's a quick read, it's a steamy, sexy read, and if you go in knowing not to expect pure romance, I think you'll like this one!

Bottom line:

Looking to warm up one cool evening? His Lover to Protect can do the job! I recommend this one as long as you don't mind that there's no romantic build-up.

4 stars
For fans of romantic suspense, contemporary romance, steamy books

Don't just take my word for it though! I've gathered up a couple of other blog reviews, so check them out for some other opinions!
