Why I picked up this book:

I loved the blurb for this one. It made me snicker.

My Thoughts:

Wilde at Heart is sexy fun. There's explosive chemistry between Shelby and Reese, the kind that causes them to get carried away. I thought it was really well-written, very realistic. Their relationship had that endorphin-rush feel of a new relationship, and I loved that.

I really felt for Shelby in this book. Her sister, in particular, felt incredibly callous. I also didn't really understand why everyone was so willing to write Shelby off as a disaster. There wasn't enough in this book to justify that for me. Maybe if I'd read earlier books in the series?  As it was, there just weren't enough specifics, other than the evil ex-boyfriend, that suggested things really went awry around her. It really felt to me that she was just a convenient emotional punching bag because her life choices weren't the same as her straitlaced sister's.  

Frustrating. But at the same time, the romance was so strong for me that I was willing to give the book a pass on the assumption that earlier books in the series made Shelby's disaster-magnetism more obvious.

For his part, Reese was a pretty good modern hero. He's got that intense focus, workaholic, loyal to his family combination that's pretty popular. I liked him, and it would have been easy for his character to go horribly wrong (for me, at least). Kudos to the author!  

Ultimately, the book was a fun read. It's sexy, there's a lot of heart, and, while I wanted to spend more time with these characters, I didn't feel like I needed to, to get the full effect of their story. Quite an enjoyable one!

Bottom line:

Other than needing to just roll with how everyone viewed Shelby, I thought Wilde at Heart was the perfect steamy read for a fall afternoon when the kids are at school. Lounge on a porch chair or your couch with a cup of tea or a pumpkin latte and a cuddly blanket, and enjoy this one!
